Zinc

Zinc is a transition metal grouped with cadmium and Mercury . Its atomic number is 30. It has five stable isotopes of atomic weight from the dominant zinc 64 to zinc 70. Plus an extra 25 radioisotopes.

Andreas Marggraf was born on March 3, 1709. He was a German chemist who rediscovered zinc by heating calamine and carbon in 1746. Even though he wasn't the first to discover it he is credited for carefully describing the process and developing the first theory.

Zinc was discovered in Germany of 1746 by Andreas Marggraf. He discovered it by heating calamine with wool. Zinc is now produced by the electrolysis of aqueous zinc sulfate. Zinc is used to make many useful alloys. Brass is one of them, brass was first used about 2,500 years ago by the ancient Romans. Brass is still used today.

Melting point : 419.5 degrees Celsius  Boiling point : 908 degrees Celsius  Density : 7.14 grams per cubic centimeter  Temperature : above 100 degrees Celsius

Element

Zinc helps our immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses while our cells require zinc to help build DNA. Our bodies need zinc to grow and develop properly making it very important for children and during pregnancy.Zinc deficiency is associated with many diseases and is believed to affect around 2 billion people in the developing world.

History of zinc

Zinc is a fairly active element . It dissolves in acids and alkalis. Zinc doesn't react with oxygen in dry air. In moist air it's reacts to form zinc carbonat. Zinc carbonate forms a thin white crust on the surface which prevents zinc to react even more. Zinc burns in air with a bluish flame

Chemical properties

Zinc is an essential element that stimulates about 100 enzymes in your body. The effects zinc has in your body is phenomenal considering the small amount needed. Zinc also is necessary to produce Dna. It heals your wounds and supports your healthy immune system.

zinc facts

An important quality of zinc is its ability to resist corrosion and therefore protect other metals. Half of all zinc produced today is used to galvanize steel to prevent against corrosion. It is used to protect buildings, cars, nails, wire, pipes and more.Zinc compounds such as zinc oxide are found in many common commercial products, including batteries, paint, plastics, rubber products, pharmaceuticals, floor coverings, inks, cosmetics, soap, and textiles. Zinc is also a natural insect repellent and sun screen, helping to protect our skin.Zinc is an essential nutritional mineral for humans and animals alike. After iron, it is the second most common trace metal found naturally in our bodies.

Most zinc is used to galvanize other metals like iron to keep it from rusting. Large quantities of zinc are used to produce die castings, which are important in the automobile, electrical and hardware industries. Zinc is also used in alloys such as brass, nickel silver and aluminum solder.
