Calculating Mean Absolute Deviation?Shortcut? No, we have to calculate this manually. Fortunately it's not too bad.

How to find the M.A.DStep 1) Calculate the average of your dataStep 2) Subtract the mean from each data pointStep 3) Make each data point positiveStep 4) Take the new mean of the data that we worked withStep 5) Done!

Symbols

Z-Score tells us where one data point lies with the rest of the data. If a z-score is negative, then it is below the mean. If it's positive, then it falls above the mean.

Catch them all!A couple of researchers took their turns catching fish in a minute. Their mean was 7 with a standard deviation of 1.5

If a researcher caught 11 fish, her z-score was 2.66

If one researcher caught 6 fish, his z-score is -0.66

If the professor only caught 4 fish, his z-score is -2.0
