Awards
Much like her personality, Poehler's autobiography is ultimately lighthearted and sporatic. Poehler begins to narrarate her life by describing her childhood and then skips ahead to the birth of her first son, Archie. There are several excerpts describing Poehler in-between chapters from other people, such as her SNL co-star, Seth Myers, and her mother and father. Poehler goes into significant detail on her career as a comedian, from the early years of performing improvisational and sketch comedy at a small theater in Chicago to moving to New York City to star on Saturday Night Live. Poehler mentions several people and aspects of growing up as an actor that have shaped her into the person and performer she is today. Poehler is quick witted and does not sugarcoat any topic she covers, a few of which include friendship, divorce, childbirth, award shows, and destroying the fear of being your complete seff 100 percent of the time.
Summary
"Going from crying to lauging that fast and that hard happens maybe five times in your life and that extreme right turn is the reason we are alive, and I believe it extends our life by many years" (38_).
“The only way we will survive is by being kind. The only way we can get by in this world is through the help we receive from others. No one can do it alone, no matter how great the machines are" (101).
