Yardley Plasencia

The Harlem Renaissance took place in the early 20th centry from the 1920s to 30s and it was a time when Negroes spread their talents through art, and other methods. It was a time where many Negroes "migrated" from rural to urban areas, and had a blast in creativity. The Harlem Renaissance included artists like Langston Hughes, Wallace Thurman, James Weldon Johnson and etc.

Romare BeardenRomare Beardon was born on September 2, 1911 in North Carolina, and moved to Harlem when he was 4. He usually made his artistic work based off of everyday African American life. He has also worked with cartooning, oils, and collages. Most people prefer to call him one of the most important American artists of te 20th century. Did you know that he was also a songwriter? Bearden used to design sets for the Alvin Ailey Company, which was a modern dance company in New York. He moved to New York City and lived there for a while to continue his work of art in public. He later died on March 12, 1988 in New York. His work was known and will be known for generations to come.
