History
A strong pride in one's country or nation swept across Europe. People wanted to be free of governments that did not represent their nationality.
Super powers were gathering up lands and creating colonies as fast as they could. this created great strife and rivalry.
Many European countries jumped on the Alliance bandwagon in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Countries found safety in numbers.
