World War II Facts1. 12,000 heavy bombers were shot down in World War 2.2. 40,000 men served on U-Boats during World War 2.3. By D-Day, 35% of all German soldiers had been wounded at least once, 11% twice, 6% three times, 2% four times and 2% more than 4 times.4. The US Army had more ships that the US Navy.5. Germany lost 40-45% of their aircraft during World War 2 do to accidents.6. There were 433 Medals of Honor awarded during World War 2, 219 of them were given after the receipiant's death.

Coming just two hundred years after the last huge global conflict, World War II was the most widespread and deadliest war in history. It involved more than 30 countries and resulted in more than 50 million military and civilian deaths (with some estimates as high as 85 million dead).
