World War II
A brief overview of the main events that occured during World War II.
1939
Germany Invades Poland
Four million troops poured over the Russian border. The Germans made tremenous advances into Russia. This battle went on for 71/2 months. This was the beginning of the end for Germany
August 6, 1945--The Enola Gay, a U.S. aircraft, dropped the first ever atomic bomb on the japanese city of Hiroshima. August 9, 1945--A second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, for a total of about 218,000 casualties.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower led U.S. and Allied troops in an invasion of Normandy, France.
The armies fought their way through France and Belgium, and into Germany, while Russian troops fought on the other side. On May 7, 1945, Germany surrendered.
Hitler invaded Poland in September of 1939. Because of this, France and Britain decared war on Germany. After conquering Poland, Hitler attacked France.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, battles were fought all over the Pacific, a part of World War II known as "The War of the Pacific." Battles were fought on land, sea, and even air. The turning point was in the Battle of Midway.
