World War II and the People
Cleto RodriguezWas a Mexican-American soldier in WWII. Entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and was a technical sergeant. He fought in the Philippine Islands and defeated the Japanese Army. He was prompted to staff sergeant and given the Medal of Honor. He was the first Mexican American to win the highest award. In San Antonio, he received the key to the city. He served in the Air Force from 1952-1954 and the army form 1955-1970. He died in 1990.
Cause: Germany attacked Poland for no apparent reason and Hitler refused to stop his invasion of Poland. Britian and France then declared war on Germany.
Axis Powers: Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria
Audie MurphyJoined the Army and fought in Italy and was moved up to Sergeant event though he was a small guy, only 5 feet tall. He helped secure Italy and went on to France and went on to kill Nazis that had shot his friend. He was quickly promoted to Second Lieutenant. After the war, he became an Actor and was given an Hollywood Walk of Fame star. He received many awards such as: Congressional Medal of Honor, Two Silver Stars, Three Purple Hearts, Two Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal.
