The Ghettos (1939-1941)

Ghetto BeginningsThe very first ghetto was instituted on the 8th of February in Lodz, Poland where almost on third of the populatin were forced to live under cruel conditions. This struggle is exemplified in the video.

The Star of DavidOn the 23rd of November, General Governer Hans Frank avowed that Jews ten years or older, were to wear the Star of David for identification of the religion.

What Began the GhettosGhettos had not started in Hungary until the spring of 1944, when Germans had finally invaded the country in WWII, and in less than 3 months, nearly 440,000 Jews had been deported to a killing center in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Germany

Formal Ghetto InstitutionThe first formal ghetto in Hungary was established in the fall of 1944's Budapest, weeks after the Arrow Cross movement seized power (confining about 63,000 Jews in a 0.1 square mile area)

FreedomForces of the Soviets set 90,000 Jews free from the two ghettos in the January of Budapest's 1945 when Jews had to be relocated to an international ghetto, due to the oversized population of Jews in the area.

A ghetto is referred to the confinement of Jews during WWII where they were forced to live in harsh living conditions.
