Chemical Weapons

During World War One, the way that wars were fought was changed forever. With the invention and utilization of chemical gases as weapons, thousands upon thousands of soldiers would fall victim to these horrible attacks. There were three major types of gas used during the war. It began with Tear Gas in 1914 before it progressed to even harsher attacks. Next, there were phosgene and cholorine attacks. And lastly, Mustard Gas began taking the lives of many in 1917.

The immediate cause of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. However, there are a number of other contributing factors that helped to fuel the fire. There were so many treaties amongst neighboring countries, that when one country entered the war (by way of defense or attack), the connected country was then drawn into the war.
