World Religions

Islam started in 700 A.D in Arabia. It was founded by Muhhumad. Islam is a monotheistic religion that believes their god's name is Allah. Muslims believe in the Five Pillars. They are like a set of rules for Muslims. They include making a pilgrimage to their holy city of Mecca, 5 prayers a day, and fasting on the muslim month of Ramadan. Their place of worship is called a mosque and their holy book is the Koran. They believe the rock to the right came from the heavens.

World Religions

Judaism is a montheistic religion that was founded by Abraham and started in about 2000 B.C in Canaan. Judaism is the oldest religion. They go to a synagouge for worship. Their holy book is called the Torah. No one is alowed to touch the Torah with their hands though. They believe that God/Yahweh created everything. They also have a set of laws called the 10 commandments. These are 10 rules or guidlines of how to live a holy life.

Christianity started in 1 A.D in Jeruselum. The founder of this religion was Jesus Christ. Christianity is the largest religion in the world today. This religion beleives in the Trinity, ( The holy father, the holy son, and the holy spirit). Their holy book is called the Bible. They beleive in similer things as Judaism, but not everything. Thier place of worship is called a church. Christians go to church on Sunday which is their holy day of the week. Christianity is the main religion of many countries.

Hinduism started in the 2500 B.C in Northeast India. It is the oldest religion in the world. There is not one single founder of Hinduism. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion. They beleive in reincarnation and the 3 forms of Brahmin. Hinduism is very controversial. There are many non official different forms of Brahmin. Hindus beleive the Ganges River is a sacred place. Hindus worship in tempels. Their holy books are the Vedas.

Buddhism started in Northeast India in 500 B.C. It was founded by Siddhartha Guatama or The Buddha who became enlightened. They do not beleive in any god or gods but their ultimate goal is to become enlightened. They beleive in reincarnation. They have guidelines to become enlightened. These are called The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path.They worship in a Stupa.
