The climate of the ERA was reintroduced in the 1970s, but it was shortlived. "Sex sells" and women's bodies were exploited to sell product. The 1980s, social problems for women were accelerated. Domestic and other violence against women increased.
By the early 20th Century suffrage was again an issue, as women began participating more in public life. Voting was seen as symbolic of all rights women were denied, and they believed voting would allow then to get into other areas of influence in society.
The 50s was a great era of consumerism. Ads were geared towards women. The woman's life existed solely to satisfy her man, care for the children and the home. The 60s was an era of rebellion, and woman began for fight for equal rights again.
The 1990s had been a time of both gains and losses for equal rights. Women were beginning to obtain positions that were previously held by men, but equal pay was still and issue. Some advertising became even more disturbing in it's depiction of women and children.
