confessions were often made under torture and suspects were tied up and thrown into a river or pond floating was a proof of guilt

In the colonies of New England,witchcraft was a capitol crime under the so called blue laws

no alleged witches were executed after 1662 although historians cannot say with absolute certainty what gave rise to the witch trials many believe fear was the primary cause

although all proceedings have appear to have been documented many of the trial records no longer exist
