Sir Winston Churchill was born on November 30th, 1874 in Oxfordshire, England. He attended Royal Military College from 1893 to 1895, and after he graduated became an army lieutenant under Queen Victoria. Churchill was a also prominent political leader in England. He became Prime Minister at the age of 65, and was still Prime Minister during World War II. Only a year after entering office, he met with US President Roosevelt to create the Atlantic Charter. Churchill was known for loving Havana cigars and holding up two fingers in a "V for Victory." In 1953, Churchill was knighted by Queen Elizabeth, who made him a knight of the Order of the Garter. He lived to 90 and was buried in St. Martin's Churchyard near where he was born.

Churchill got many things done in his life. He was not only a politician, he was also a writer, painter, soldier, war reporter, historian, and biographer. But he said, "My most brilliant achievement was my ability to pursuade my wife to marry me."

Lasting Impact

Winston Churchill formed a friendship between the United States and England that has lasted ever since.
