William McKinley

BiographyWilliam McKinley served as the governor of Ohio and in the United States' Congress before being elected President in 1896. Though, for years, historians thought of McKinley as a "mediocre" president, a more modern take has been bestowed upon the 25th President of the United States to where he is now viewed as the first president to launch the U.S. into world power and leadership, a prosperity our country still enjoys today. Mckinley worked to protect the tariffs during his first term to promote the domestic industry and employment for American workers. However, though his intention was set for American prosperity, his administration would be remembered in history as one focused on foreign affairs as the U.S. entered into war with Spain in 1898 and launched The Spanish-American War. In 1900, Mckinley was re-elected and spent a few short months in office before he was assassinated in September of 1901 by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist.
