William Lawswon was born on the 2nd of June, 1774 at Finchley, England. He arrived in Sydney in 1800, and was sent to Norfolk Island where he married Sarah Leadbeater. In 1813 Greory Blaxland asked if William could accompany him with Wentworth to draw out the route of the the crossing. Lawson's knowledge of surveying made him a valueble member of the expedition. This was the first successful attempt to find a route across the Blue Mountains. The journey took 21 days. During the crossing the three explorers got lost in Springwood.They were lost for 5 days until the three explorers came to an Aboriginal Tribe and one of the tribe members helped them get back on track. Lawson now built a fine 40-room mansion in colonial style. At the end of the crossing Macquarie rewarded each explorer with 405 hectares of land. Lawson selected his on The Campbell River near Bathurst. Unfortunately William Lawson died on the 16th of June, 1850. The town, Lawson is located 93 kilometres from Sydney and was originally called 'Blue Mountains'. It was renamed in 1879 to honour William Lawson.
Accomplishments

In 1810 he recieved a grant of 202 hectares. In London, William lawson was trained as a surveyor.. In 1824 he was a generous supporter of the Scots Presbyterian Church.William entered politics in 1843, as a member of Cumberland. Lawson was apart of the army before the crossing.
Personal Qualities
William Lawson undertook three journeys in Bathurst to find a pass through the ranges to the liverpool plains. This was unsuccessful. He imported rams and ewes from England. His occupation was a horse breeder, an explorer, and a grazier.
