William Golding

Biography

Sir William Gerald Golding was an English novelist and playwright. He is most famously known for Lord of the Flies, Rites of Passage, and To the Ends of the Earth. Born in 1922, Golding was the son of Mildred, and active feminist, and Alex, a school master. He attempted to write his first novel at the age of twelve and failed.He would go on to attend Brasenose College, Oxford where his love for English literature took root. In 1954, Golding wrote Lord of the Flies which would go on to inspire several film adaptations.
