What is Culture?

Cultures & CivilizationsCivilizations are an advanced state of human society in which a high level of culture, science, industry, and government has been reached. Traditionally, civilations would be established when people settled in fertile, propserous land where they no longer need to be hunters or gatherers. Cultures may experience change when they interact with different cultures and an exchange of ideas, beliefs, and principles occur.

The characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people which includes language, religion, food, social habits, music, and arts.

Examples: Ancient Aztec Civilization (image) and Ancient Myan Civilization (video)

Historic events, achievements, and contributions in every culture can be shown in their art, writings, music, and artifacts though the eyes of people who were there.

World CommunitiesA community is a group of people who live in the same area or a group of people who share common interests. World communities are people in different communities all around the world. People in world communities share their values, ideas, beliefs, and traditions through the use of legends, folktales, oral histories, biographies, autobiographies, and historical narriatives.

Examples: Below are books that share the values, ideas, beliefs and traditions of people in different world communities.
