Wetlands are very helpful to our world in many different ways, such as, they act like a sponge so they can help soak up water in a flood, and they reduce the impacts from storm damage. Most people think that wetlands dont matter, but if we lost wetlands we would also loose many inoccent creatures who have done nothing wrong like bees who live by wetlands so they can pollinate. We would also loose endangered species such as the northern leapored frog, We need to protect our wetlands and we can do that by not littering, dumping dish soap or any products that have unnatural ingredients in them.

Counsumer:An organism that feeds on other organisms in the food chain.

Decomposer:An organism excpecially a soil, bacterium, fungus, or invertabrate that decomposes organic material

Producer:A producer is an autotropic organism that serves as a source of food for other organisms in the food chain.

Life cycle of an oak tree:The oak tree starts out as a seed, then a sprout, after a sapling, and last, a mature oak.

Life cycle of a frog:The frog starts out as an egg, then it moves on to being a tadpole, next a froglet, and then an adult frog

Slough (slew):A slough is a swamp or shallow lake system, it is also very muddy.

Marsh:The marsh is filled with duckweed, lily pads, and arrowheads. Marshes are about 6 feet deep and are rich in minerals

Pond:Ponds are filled with shallow water and lots of marsh. Ponds are filled with cattails and frogs

Fen:Fens like bogs are filled with peat and grass. Fens are filled with lots of groudwater

Bog:Bogs are filled with peat and moss. This is the home of the eastern newt and the moose.

Types of wetlands:There are 5 different types of wetlands in Alberta

Adaptation:When people took over wetlands, most plants had to get used to a new way of living, like, some plants grew stems that couldn't be pulled out of the ground. This progress took centuries.
