West Indian Manatee (Trichechus Manatus)
The West Indian Manatee can be found just in 19 counties of North Carolina. Including: Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Washington
Scars from the Boats' Propeller Hitting Them
Many organizations are trying to increase public awareness to help save the manatees. Others are sponsoring for research, rehabilitation, and release efforts. A lot of boat speed zones and sanctuaries have been set up to try and slow down the boats, to keep more animals from being injured.

The manatees are endangered because of many reasons. Some of those reasons would include people speeding in boats and injuring the manatees with their propeller. Another reason would be the trouble of manatees becoming injured by getting caught in wires and traps.
