Weather Types

Hurricanes form when warm air over tropical water rises quickly. The water will condense and release large amounts of energy known as latent heat.http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/natural-disasters/hurricane-profile/

When precipitation falling from a thunderstorm solidifies into large chunks of ice, the storm is commonly referred to as a hailstorm. To occur, there must be strong upward winds and lowered freezing levels that enable the frozen precipitation to grow to levels large enough to no longer be an ice storm.http://www.integrityroofingandpainting.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/texas-hail-damage1.jpg

A blizzard is a type of severe snowstorm. It occurs when falling snow is accompanied by winds greater than 35 mph and severe visibility hinderances.http://severe-wx.pbworks.com/f/blizzard.jpg

10 Different Weather Types

Dust Storms occur in arid or semi-arid areas that have lots of loose sand and dirt on the ground. Strong winds will pick up large amounts of the loose sand and dirt and carry them for large distances.http://www.crystalinks.com/duststormcity.jpg

Tornadoes occur when a thunderstorm comes across high altitude winds. The winds will cause the rising warm air to rotate and narrow spinning cloud might be formed.http://www.pbcgov.com/dem/_images/tornado_1.jpg

Thunderstorms occur when warm, moist air moves upward, cools, and condenses, they form massive cumulonimbus clouds that are capable of creating thunderstorms. They typically occur along fronts and can form squall lines. http://www.eoearth.org/files/123901_124000/123927/250px-Thunderstorm_and_rain.jpg

Snow occurs when precipitation falling from clouds travels through below-freezing temperatures and solidifies into tiny ice crystals.http://cdn2.picturesofwinter.net/picturesofwinter-cdn/snowonground-2112-s.jpg

Waterspouts are tornadoes over water. The rising column is not made up of water coming from the ocean, but instead water from the air that is condensing on the spot. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0412/waterspout_noaa.jpg

A Drought occurs when an area receives less than normal precipitation. This can cause water levels in rivers, lakes, wells, etc to drop, plants to die from lack of water, and in turn animals from lack of both food and water.http://serc.carleton.edu/images/earthlabs/drought/dried_lake_mud.jpg_361.jpg

Wildfires naturally occur from lightning strikes on dry land. The strike will ignite an area that will continue to grow if conditions are right, such as the right winds and how dry the land around is. http://www.vashonbeprepared.org/portals/1/Uploads/Graphics/Website/wildfire-CuttingEdge-Hazards.jpg
