George Washington set several precedents during his time as president of the United States of America. One of these precedents was the title of Mr. President. Another precedent was him placing his right hand on the bible and saying "so help me God" at his inauguration ceremony. However one of the most important precedents he set was resigning after 4 years, and only running for two terms.

Whiskey Rebellion

Washington sent around 15,000 troops to quell the Whiskey Rebellion. Some people may consider this appropriate. A country with unruly citizens is destined to fail. However, others considered this as an unneeded show of force on Washington's part. Some believed that Washington was acting like he was a king, and worried that they would fall under another monarchy. In the end, Washington's only motive was to put an end to a rebellion that would make the newly formed government look weak and to show the citizens that even though they were no longer under the ruleof a king, they were still expected to follow laws laid down by the government.

Lasting Impact

Today, we still follow the precedents set by Washington, including the president having a cabinet.
