[2015] Shalika Sangras: Walter Raliegh


Walter Raleigh was born on January 22, 1552. He died of execution in October 29, 1618 since he was suspected of plotting against King James I.

Walter Raliegh was looking for recources from the New World. Istead, he clonized the Roanoke colony further.

1587Walter Raleigh names Virginia and explores it.

1585Sir Walter Raleigh is knighted.

1579Walter Raleigh sails to America.

1552Walter Raleigh was born in England.

1603-1618Raleigh is imprisoned and then executed for plotting against King James.

Sir Walter Raleigh explored Virginia and all the land between North Carolina and Florida. Queen Elizabeth I sponsered his trip. This discovery was important since the Roanoke colony was further colonized.


Interesting facts:- Raleigh's head was given to Bess (his wife) and she kept it in a bag with her. She kept it for the rest of her life- The capital of North Carolina was named Raleigh in 1792- Raleigh was buried with his favorite smoking pipe- Raleigh named Virginia after the Virgin of Queen Elizabeth- Walter Raleigh also wrote a book when he was imprisoned called History of the World.
