Walt Disney

Disney, Walt (Walter Elias Disney) (dĭz′nē), 1901–66, American movie producer and pioneer in animated cartoons was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1901. He grew up in Missouri, in the small town of Marceline and in Kansas City. He moved to Chicago in 1917, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and began (1920) his career as a cartoonist making animated film advertisements. In 1928 Disney created the character Mickey Mouse in the silent film Plane Crazy. That same year Mickey also appeared in Steamboat Willie, a short that initiated the concept of making a separate cartoon for each animated movement. Instantly famous, the film was also Disney's first attempt to use sound (his own voice for Mickey). He exemplified and lived out the American dream. From humble beginngings of almost no childhood, Walt Disney transformed his life into a great success.

Accomplishments

Walt Disney was dislexic, moved a great deal of times, forced to work for his own father at the age of 6 to deliver newspapers at 3:30 am every morning. Also, Mickey Mouse’s original name was Mortimer Mouse, but Walt’s wife thought the name sounded “pompous.”Neither Mickey Mouse nor the famed “Walt Disney” signature were actually ever drawn by Walt Disney himself. He also attempted to enlist in the U.S. Army, but was rejected because he was too young.

He revoltionized the art of animation, through his virtually endless list creations and accomplisments. Three of his amusement parks are of the top 10 most popular in the enire world, one of which being CA's great disneyland. Disney created an enormous amount of cartoons, introducing a wholesome, family entertainment.
