Walla Walla Tribe

Location and EnvironmentThe Walla Walla tribe lives in the mountain tribe. There are any fast flowing rivers and lakes, and there are many forests too. The climate in the mountain region is hot in the summer, with cold, snowy winters. The animals there include fish, elk, deer, bear, mountain goat, groundhog, coyote, raccoon, fox, porcupine, weasel, beaver, and hare. Some of the natural recources there are berries, bulbs, roots, seeds, water, wood, and meat.

Other tribes found in this region are Shoshone, Paiute, Miwok, Pomo.

ClothingMen's clothing was made out of shredded cedar bark, deer skin, rabbit skin, and buffallo hides. They were make into breechcloths, leggings, vests, shirts, moccasins, and robes. Women wore long dresses that went from their necks to thier ankles and high, knee length moccasins.

HousesThere are two types of houses. One of them is the pit house, built of log and sealed by earth and grasses. Pit houses are built underground. Another type of house is tule-mat lodge. It is tepee shaped and coverd in bark. It is above ground.

Artifacts, Tools, and Crafts Some tools that the Walla Walla tribe used are dugout canooes, spears, knives, arrows, and clubs. Some of their artifacts were arrow heads, mississippian head pots, bags and pouches. For crafts, they made jewlery wooden totem poles, pottery, Kachina dolls, baskets, and beadwork.
