Voltaire basically fought for civil rights. He fought for equality and justice and battled superstition. He hated slave trade and religious prejudice.

Doesn´t have a certain name of his philosophy, but is famous for his works. Wrote the Age of Enlightenment and Candide.

Originally from Paris, France but got exiled to Tulle, then got arrested so he had to go to Bastille, and then sent off to England for some time. After all that, he came back to Paris, France.

The effects of his philosophy offended the French government and Catholic Church. Which caused him to be imprisoned and exiled. His books got burned. But he still continued to fight for the freedom of speech.

"Prejudices are what fools use for reason."

It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong.
