A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the Earth.
Volcanoes are grouped into different four types: 1. Cinder cones2. Composite volcanoes3. Shield volcanoes4. Lava domes
Earthquakes, hot springs, fumaroles, mud pots and geysers often accompany volcanic activity.
Erupting volcanoes can pose many hazards, not only in the immediate vicinity of the eruption. One such hazard is that volcanic ash can be a threat to aircraft.
