Valley Forge

George Washington camped at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War.

George Washington and his men built cabins out of sticks, logs, and mud

Troops came out of the winter more strong and disciplined because of Baron Friedrick von Steuben's training.

Baron Friedrich von Steuben trained troops in warfare and arrived in February 1778.

11,000 troops came to Valley Forge but 2,000 died of starvation, cold, and of disease.

The Patriots arrived at Valley Forge in December 1777.

It was a harsh winter. Many of the soldiers did not have shoes or enough food
