Many of the practices studied by Bronfenbrenner have been updated in modern times. His original model has had some of the following modifications: - The influence of Time is accounted for (The Chronosystem - The subject's actual biological being (Gender identity, differences, etc.)

Born in the Soviet Union - Came to the USA in the early 1920s.First of Seven Children, his parents encouraged him to study law.Known for works in Developmental Psychology and the Head Start programTaught at Cornell University (Professor Emeritus)Studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his BA, MA, and PhD.


Main Points - - Individuals are influenced by the environment as they influence the environment - From Smallest to largest the levels fo Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, and Macrosystem. - Later on Bronfenbrenner revised the system to include the Chronosystem, or influences that happen over time.

- Developed the "Head-Start" Program for impoverished communities in the 1960s. - Further research into human development yeilded his Ecological Systems Theory. - Development occurs at many levels

Ecological Systems Theory

By taking into acount the development of the student and the various levels of the model, the educator can pose questions that apply to various segments of the model. - This in turn encourages abstract thinking and system analysis leading to deeper content understanding.
