Zen Buddhism

It was a school of Mahayana Buddhism developed in China during Tang dynasty. It began in China and made it's way to Vietnam, Korea, & Japan. It emphasizes meditation practice very much.

Zen Buddhism really deemphasizes sutras and doctrine. However, it very much favors direct understanding of zazen and also seeking accomplished teachers.

The teachings include many sources of Mahayana thought, including importantly Yogacara, Tathagatagarbha Sutras, and Huayan. They however have much emphasis on Buddha nature, totality, and the Bodhisattva ideal. Not so much, but the Prajñaparamita literature and Madhyamaka were influential to Zen Buddhism.
