UDL Universal Design for Learning

What is UDL???Universal Design of Learning is a set of 3 principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn. Within special education programs specifically African Americans are overrepresented and UDL is a program set forth to even out this issue. Universal Design for Learning makes sure that every individual is allowed equal opportunity to learn no matter their race or gender.

RTI:(Response to Interention)

Representation (Principle 1):give learners various ways of acquiring information and knowledge.Ex. Show a video, Teach a friend, play a game

Differentiation:An effective way in teaching that involves providing different students with different strategies to learn. It also provides a wide variety of teaching techniques.

Tier 3:Intensive Interventions and Comprehensive Evaluations

Differentiate through teams

What is MTSS??MTSS leverages the principles of RTI and PBIS and integrates a continuum of systemwide resources, strategies, structures and practices. .

Multi Tiered Systems of Support

Engagement(Principle 3):tap into learners' interests, offer appropriate challenges, and increase motivation.Ex. Find out what you're students like, use manipulatives

Action & Expression(Principle 2):Provide learners with alternatives to demonstrate what they know.Ex. Use an Ipad, posters, Use a pencil

What is PBIS??A systematic educational approach that relies on aligning evidence-based strategies with student need to effect positive behavior outcomes. Consists of three tiers.

Tier 1:Teaching a set of appropriate behaviors within the whole school

Tier 2:Activates behavioral interventions for students who do not respond to the primary instruction

Tier 3:Involves individualized behavior support plans for students who do not respond to primary or secondary prevention support

Progress-monitoring:This involves testing students, followed by tutoring, it can even be a combination of the two. This monitoring takes place in tier 2 and 3 and through DBI individuals are able to determine if a student needs more/less help.

DBI: Data-Based Individualization:is an empirically proven method for individually tailoring instruction for students with significant learning problems.
