Who was William Shakespeare?
William Shakespeare was a famous playwright, poet, and actor. He Grew up in Stratford Upon Avon and was thought to be born on April 23, 1564. He spent his proffesional life in London. He was a wealthy middle class man with a comfortable life from the earnings he made from writing plays. He Married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and had three children. Some of Shakespear's most famous plays include Othello, The Moor of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelth Night, Julius Caesar, Richard III, Macbeth, Midsummer Night's Dream, Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet.
Plot and Subplot
In Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare there are many differant plots. One example of a subplot is when Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria play a prank on Malvolio causing him to be embarassed and leave.An example of a plot twist in Twelfth night.Olivia thinks she is marrying Cesario but it turns out that she is marrying Sebastian. Also, the main plot of Twelfth Night is how Viola is disguised as Cesario the man, but she secretly loves Duke Orsino who loves the countess Olivia who fell in love with cesarion when cesario is secretly viola.
Direct/Indirect Characterization
Direct Characterization is stating what the character is like directly. Ex: Sal is a happy kid.Indirect Characterization Is the writer shows what the character is like indirectly. Ex:Sal skipped to school and sang.An example is how Olivia had sworn to mourn for her dead brother and father for seven years and to not love for those seven years. But when Viola came secretly disguised as Cesarion, she quickly fell for him and loved him. Then throughout the story, Olivia's love for Cesario grows even though she had sworn to not love. At the end, she ended up protection Sebastion who is Viola's twin and marrying him bravely even though the Duke wanted to marry her.
Allusion/Symbolism
Allusion: a referance to something. Ex: I am as fast as Mecury.Symbolism: Symbols that represent a character or meaning.These are some examples of allusions from the book. Where,like Arion on the dolphin's back. My brother he is in Elysium. Also, an example of symbolism is when Malvolio is thrown into a dark room to represent his insanity.
Irony
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare is a comedy and shows many examples of irony. An example of Situational irony is when Feste the fool proves Oliva, the countess, to be the bigger fool during a conversation. This is situational irony because the outcome isn't what you would expect it to be. Then, an example of dramatic irony is how Viola is dressed as a man and everyone in the play doesn't know, but the audience does. This is dramatic irony because the crowd know something the characters don't.
Scene From Twelfth Night
In this scene from Twelfth Night, Malvolio is giving a ring to Cesario that he supposedly threw at Olivia, but Olivia just said Cesario threw it so that Malvolio would give the ring to Cesario so he would come back to see Olivia so she could talk to him again because she loves him.
