Tropical Savanna

1. Bermuda Grass adapts to the conditions of the Tropical Savanna by having an extensive root system that makes the grass drought tolerant and is capable of fast reproduction2. The Jerrah Tree adapts to the Tropical Savanna conditions by having a long branch tree trunk with large leaves that flowers and provides food for bees, birds, and other insects.3. The River Bushwillow adapts to the Tropical Savanna conditions by growing over 30 feet tall along river banks- the main food source for giraffes.4. The Jackelberry Tree adapts to the conditions of the Tropical Savanna by having termites provide suitable soil and moisture for the tree, which protects the termite mound against preadators. 5. Kangroo Paws adapts to the enviornment by the flowers they produce that grow 13 cm. long. This provides nectar for wattlebirds.

1. Giraffes adapt to their enviornment by having their long necks which helps them reach the tops of trees including the River Bushwillow to get their food. Their narrow muzzle and long tounge allows the giraffe to deal with thorny vegetation.2. Elephants adapt to the conditions of the Tropical Savanna by being able to store water in their large trunks. Their strength also allows them to tear open trunks of trees to obtain water.3. Rhinos have adapted to their envornment because they have thick skin that is diffiicult to penetrate, protecting them from predators and thick brush in their habitat.4. Zebras can adapt to the conditions of the Tropical Savanna because their striped pattern makes it hard for predators to distinguish one from the whole pack. Zebras also can run up to 40 mph, even in a zigzagging form-making them harder to catch.5. Gazelles have adapted to their enviornmental conditions by having long limbs that allow them to sprint rapidly out of the range of preadators. Their speed can reach up to 40 mph which is important when ecsaping their predator- the cheetah- the fastest land animal.

Keystone Species

Termites- Termites are vitatl organisms in the tropical savanna. Other species depend on the termites because they help form shelter for other species, help create soil, and starts the food chain.

Energy Flow Pyramid

Secondary succession is very common in the tropical savanna due to the high frequency of seasonal fires that burn down many of the trees and lots of the grass. Some species on the plains have developed certain adaptations to make them fireproof. Seeds from outside the affected area blow in and establish themselves in the soil. Over time, larger and larger plants grow and this later supports a variety of animals. The resulting community is very similar to the original one.
