Dilation

A translation is where an object's location is changed but nothing else. The objects coordinates are added to or subtracted to in order to get to the new location.

A reflection is where an object is mirrored across an axis. The x or y coordinates flip from being positive to negative or negative to positive.

A dilation is where an object grows or shrinks to get the new figure. The figures are still proportional to each other. In order to calculate dilation, multiply the coordinates of the object by the scale factor.

A rotation is where an object is either rotated around the origin, which is typically the center of the grid, or it is rotated around itself. The object is turned and moved as if the whole graph had rotated around the origin.

A transformation is when a figure is moved on a coordinate plane. Transformations include translation, rotation, reflection, or dilation. These tranformations result in objects that are similar to the original. Possible jobs using tranformations are a doctor, an architect, a computer developer, a farmer, a mechanist, and a glazier.
