In 1498 Vasco da Gama found a sea route to Calicut but could not establish a colony. This was the first route to India

In 1543, the Portuguese first reached Japan and were welcomed by the Shoguns. The Spanish and Dutch soon followed and did what the Portuguese had done. They converted 300,000 Japanese to thier religion.

In 1514 Portuguese navigators succesfully made the journey to Chine by sea. They now had a direct route to trade with China

Vasco da Gama went back to Calicut, India in 1503 and finally established a trading post. Now that he had established this trading post they could recieve more products,

In 1656, the Chinese agreed to trade with Portugal because they were impressed with how much the Portuguese were willing to learn the chinese ways and customs.
