What Are Tornadoes?A tornado is a mobile destructive vortex of violently rotating winds having the appearance of a funnel.

Tornado Characteristics-Large hail-Dark clouds-Green skies-Are very loud. They sound similar to a freight train-Travels around 10-20 MPH-Have calm centers called the eye of the tornado-Low pressure-Can happen in any temperature-Large, dark, low clouds-Very strong winds

Tornado Precautions-Always protect your head.-Prepare for shelter in advance.- Stay away from windows-Find a secure, stable spot in the lowest level of the bulding you are in.-DO NOT DRIVE. If you are driving during a tornado, drive in a right angle to the storm. If the tornado switches directions, ditch the car and go straight for a stable building or lay down flat in a nearby ditch.-If there is no basement, go to an interior room such as a bathroom or closet with no windows.

Environmental impacts-Buildings get destroyed and fall down-Animals die-Farms get destroyed.

Human Impacts-Many people can die from falling objects.-Many suffer from serious injuries that send them to the hospital.-Many lose their homes

Where are tornadoes located?-Tornado Alley-Places such as Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and New Zealand When do they occur?-Months of May and early June or July-Usually occur from the hours of 4 to 9 PM.Each year the U.S. has about 1200 tornadoes. But outside the U.S., Argentina and Bangladesh have the highest concentration of tornadoes.

What's The Size?To measure the size of the sorm, storm chasers and meteorologists use a Fujita or an Enhanced Fujita Scale.

A tornado watch is issued by the NOAA Storm Prediction Center which is a team of meteorologists who watch the weather 24/7. A watch is when a tornado may be sighted and to be aware and to stay tuned to the NOAA radio station.

A tornado warning is issued by your local NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office which is a team of meteorologists who watch the weather over a designated area. A warning means that a tornado has been spotted and that is a serious threat to human life and property and you should find shelter right away.r text here
