What am I?I am a violent funnel shaped wind storm that moves in a narrow path across land.

What causes me to happen?Tornadoes form in unusually violent thunderstorms when there is sufficient instability and wind shear present in the lower atmosphere.

Tornado Classification

Internal winds can reach 500 km/hr or 300 mph.

Paths of tornadoes are irregular, they can change at any time.

Life span is usually less than 1 hour. (15 minutes average)

Width can be from 100 meters to 600 meters wide.

3 out of ever 4 tornadoes occur in the tornado alley.

Facts

Usually occur in the southwest corner of a low pressure system.

Tornados can occur when a warm front meets a cold front, causing a thunderstorm.

Tornadoes are nearly transparent until they pick up dust & debris or a cloud forms.
