The Fujita scale classifies tornadoes according to the damage they cause. F1 tornadoes reach speeds of 73-112 m.p.h. and can rip off the roofs of houses. Only about 1% of tornadoes are classified as F5, causing "incredible damage" with wind speeds in excess of 261 m.p.h. They can lift houses off their foundations and hurl them considerable distances.

Although tornadoes occur in many areas of the world, these destructive storms are found most frequently in the U.S. east of the Rockies, especially during the spring and summer months.

TORNADOES!!What makes them go round?

Tornadoes form in thunderstorms and are often accompanied by destructive lightning and hail. Giantic thunderstorms called supercells spawn the most destructive tornadoes.
