6 Kingdoms of Life

Single celled prokaryotes, that often times found in the most extreme corners of our eco systems. They can be found in boiling hot water, highly acidic environments and even places without oxygen.



The bacteria of kingdom eubacteria are heterotrophic, autotrophic, and chemotrophic. Heterotrohps absorb organic materials down in both living and dead organisms. Autotrophs can make their own food by photosynthesis. Chemotrophs get their food by breaking down inorganic matter.



They can grow in marine, terrestrial, and fresh water environments. Fungi get their nutrients they need from decomposing other dead or dying organisms.Fungi are also important directly as food for humans. Many mushrooms are edible and different species are cultivated for sale worldwide.


This kingdoms is the largest with over 1 million species. All animals consist of many complex cells. They are also heterotrophs. They typically reproduce sexually, but some lay eggs. They are also made up of cells that lack a cell wall. Organisms found in this kingdom are the only ones that are capable of motion in all stages of life.


Plants have organs and organ systems. The leaves collect and absorb sunlight to convert to glucose. The leaves have a waxy coat on them to shield against water. The root system, which branches out, provides support and absorbs water. The stem provides support and the petal / flower / bud is the reproductive organ of the plant.


The Protista Kingdom consists of unicellular lifeforms who have a nucleus. Protists are eukaryotes. Many species have chloroplasts, but some consume other organisms for energy. Biologists believe that ancient protists were the ancestors of plants and animals.
