To Read is to Dream

Pat the Bunny was the first book I fell in love with for its simple and cute pictures.

Mr. Dominguez, who is a professor at Reedley College, helped me realize how much I actually like to read and write. He would give lectures with so much passion that it made me want to better myself at reading and writing. With his help and patience, I got better at both reading and writing.

I wasn't always the best reader, so when it came to taking reading tests, I struggled. In order to understand books, I had to listen to someone reading it to me.

Spanish is my first language. I was lucky enough to have an older brother who showed me what he did when he went to school, so I wouldn't have a hard time like he did. When I went to school, my parents would try and read to me, but they didn't know English very well. It was a struggle to learn to read, but I am very thankful for all their help.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”- Dr. Seuss

I didn't know how to read for the longest time. I would just look at the pictures in books and make up stories to go along with them.

To Read is to Dream

Reading and writing is a challenge. All a student needs is a teacher who will listen and encourage them to do their best.

My brother had to share his library card with me for a while. When I finally got my own, I was allowed to get all the books I wanted.
