Dill dares Jem or Scout to go knock on Boo Radley's door which is quite possibly the scariest dare of all time. Atticus makes Jem and Scout vist Mrs.Duboseto read to her every day until she says she is done reading. Then shes dies. Atticus dose a great job on defending Tom Robinson but after all the evidence, the jury still judges him as gulity Scout and Jem find gifts in a knothole of a tree on the Radley property. They sneak onto the Radley property, where Nathan Radley shoots at them. Jem loses his pants during their escape, when he returns to get them back, they are folded on the fence and mended. The next winter, Jem and Scout find more presents in the tree, presumably left by the mysterious Boo. Nathan Radley eventually plugs the knothole with cement. Shortly thereafter, a fire breaks out in another neighbor’s house, and during the fire someone slips a blanket on Scout’s shoulders as she watches the blaze. Convinced that Boo did it. Mayella has accused Tom Robison, a black man of raping her. Turns out she is lying but he is steal accused of raping her. Tom Rodison tried to ascape and got shot 17 times.

Scout sees her town new , older light now that she's experienced so much, and she looks out over her neighborhood and knows that she needs to stand in people's shoes if she wants to really understand them.

The story takes place in 1930's Maycomb County, Alabama, during the Great Depression. The main characters in the story are Scout, Jem, and Atticus Finch. Scout and Jem are the children of widowed Atticus.Scout Finch, Jean Louise Finch, is the narrator of the story. In the story she is looking back as an adult to the two years of her life when she learned about courage and kindness and the importance of doing what is right. Jem Finch, Scout’s older brother, is Scout’s primary source of knowledge, and he takes responsibility for her in most instances. As Jem grows older, he finds it difficult to deal with the hypocrisy and cruelty of people, but Atticus helps him work through some of that disappointment.Atticus is a lawyer defending a black man, Tom Robison accused of raping a white girl. He teaches his children to be respectful and honest, and about courage and kindness through his own example and he is a well-respected member of the Maycomb community.
