To Kill A Mockingbird

"I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody... I'm hard put, sometimes—baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn't hurt you." “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”

Atticus believes that all men should be treated equal so he won't be able to live with himself if he can't defend Tom.

Atticus is chosen to defend Tom Robinson, a black man that everyone disrespects.

Scout is innocent and doesn't realize why it's taboo to respect black people.

Scout Finch

“Atticus told me to delete the adjectives and I'd have the facts.” "Atticus had said it was the polite thing to talk to people about what they were interested in, not about what you were interested in."

Scout narrates the story in first-person. She is a tomboy based on Harper Lee herself.
