Titan

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn

-Lakes-Rivers-Volcanos-Not many craters-External heat source-Slightly larger than Earth's moon

Titan's atmosphere is thicker and denser than Earth's. It is also more substantial than any other moon. Titan's upper atmosphere is thick with smoggy haze. 98% of the atmosphere is Nitrogen with some methane. Titan's atmosphere has ten times more gas than Earth and is considered a gigantic chemical factory because of the chemical reactions that constantly occur. Methane and Ethane on Titan behave like water on Earth with methane rain, snow, and fog. There are said to be methane oceans and rivers on the surface. Titan's surface temperature is 94K with an icy landscape. Atmospheric pressures at ground level are 60% greater than on Earth. The surface is covered in hydrocarbon sediment that settled from the clouds and there may also be a liquid hydrocarbon lake. Scientists have also detected large organic molecules on the surface. Titan's atmosphere is steadily escaping because of Saturn's harsh magnetosphere.

Titan's SurfaceTitan's surface does not have many craters which tells us that it is geologically active. Titanquakes, volcanic activity and erosion all occur within Titan.

Physical Characteristics

Atmosphere

CompostitionTitan has a rocky inner core surrounded by a thick mantle of water ice. A few 10s of kilometeres under the surface is believed to be a layer of liquid water, just above the mantle.

Possibility of LifeTitan does have potential for life. Scientists say that Titan resembles early Earth. If the sun were to increase its temperature then Titan's temperature could possibly increase enough to have stable oceans. If Titan had oceans it would most likely be able to support some form of life.
