The National Weather Service defines a thunderstorm as severe if it contains hail that is three quarter of an inch or the wind gusts are at 58 mph or higher.

When the upper air which is cold sinks and the warm moist air rises, storm clouds or ‘thunderheads’ develop resulting in thunderstorms

It has been estimated that are nearly 16 million thunderstorms annually all over the globe.
