Thornfield Hall

Thornfield Hall

Much of Jane Eyre occurs in Thornfield Hall. Jane meets the master of Thornfield and soon falls in love with him. Jane also develops a close bond with Adele and Mrs. Fairfax, the caretaker of the house.

While Mr. Rochester owns Thornfield, he seldom lives there, and when he does, it is for only a short period of time between business trips.

When Jane finally returns to Thornfield, she finds the house burned and destroyed. She discovers that Bertha, Mr. Rochester's wife, set the house ablaze, then commited suicide by jumping off the roof.
