Menlo Park is where Thomas Edison invented and tested the first machine that could record and reproduce sound. He successfully recorded the human voice and played it back. Thomas Edison's greatest challenge was the development of a practical incandescent, electric light and Edison founded the Edison Illuminating Company .This invention provided a system for electricity distribution

Thomas Edison was asked to lead the Naval Consulting Board. This consulting board hoped to gather many talented American inventors and scientist that could benefit the armed forces.

Thomas Edison lived for several months in a navy vessel on the Long Island Sound. Thomas Edison experimented with techniques for detecting and identifying submarines.

Thomas Edison is responsible for making many American lives easy and safe. The inventions of the incandescent light bulb (1878), revolutionize indoor lighting. The invention of the phonograph allowed many Americans record sound and plays it back.

Edison founded the Edison Illuminating Company .This invention provided a system for electricity distribution into the homes and businesses of many Americans.
