Elie Wiesel has continued to affect the world through his humanitarian contributions.

In 1978, Wiesel was named Chairman of the President's commission on the Holocaust by President James Carter.Wiesel served as Chairman of the United Stated Holocaust Memorial Museum Council from 1980 to 1986.

Wiesel has appeared before the United Nations Council to demand action in Darfur.
