The second law of thermodynamics states that thermal energy can flow from colder objects to hotter objects only if work is done on the system.

The third law of thermodynamics states that absolute zero cannot be reached.

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy is conserved.

Laws of thermodynamics

Thermodynamics- The branch of science that deals with heat and other forms of energy.Absolute Zero- The lowest temperature that is theoretically possible.Entropy- the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.Temperature- A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object.

Heat- A form of energy associated with the movement of atoms and molecules.Calorie- The amount of heat to raise the temperature of a kilogram of water by one degrees the ability to do work.potential energy- the energy that is possessed because a objects poition or state.

Kinetic energy- The energy of motion.Exothermic- A process or chemical reaction causing heat.Endothermic- A chemical reaction that is accompanied by the absorption of heat.Thermal expansion- The increase of volume as an objects temperature increases.

Thermal contraction- When an objects temperature decreases its volume does also.Radiation- Energy in the form of rays.Convection- The transfer of heat through fluids From a warmer spot to a cooler spot.Conduction- Transfer of energy through direct contact.
