Theodora

Theodora was empress of the Byzantine Empire and the wife of Emperor Justinian. Theodora was perhaps the most influential and powerful woman in the Byzantine Empire's history. She will always be remembered for helping after the Nika rebellion tried to take the government from Justinian. Justinian wanted to run and leave the Empire once the Nika's attacked, Theodora convinced him to stay, and he killed over 30,000 rebels to control his empire again.

500- Theodora was born in Cyprus.June 28th 548- Theodora died of what Victor of Tonnena described as "cancer" at the age of 48.

Theodora created her own centers of power like the Hagia Sophia. Also Olbia, Roman town, renamed itself Theodorias after Theodora.

Theodora is remembered as one of the first rulers to recognize the rights of women, passing strict laws to prohibit the traffic in young girls and altering the divorce laws to give greater benefits to women.
