TheInstitute

I’m Mr. Wietlispach speaking to you from Joliet Central High School, room 377 for the Institute for the Teaching of Economics in All Subject Areas. You are listening to:The Institute for the Teaching of Economics in All Subject AreasVolume One, Issue OneAbout the Institute for the Teaching of Economics in All Subject AreasThe institute is being founded through the incentives provided by the Illinois Council on Economics Education and the 3M Innovative Economic Educator Awards Program. The belief of the institute is that Economics is the premier social science and should be taught as a required semester elective course in all Illinois high schools. The purpose of the institute for schools that do not run semester electives in Economics is to first seek to create this condition and, in the meantime, teach basic economic principles in other required and elective courses in the social studies department and other content areas. The method for promoting basic economic concepts across the curriculum will be through digitally recorded verbal explanations that present an economic analysis of concepts and episodes from a variety of subject areas. These recordings are more commonly referred to as podcasts.
